Union
County State Park
During
the depression this area was converted into a county park with the aid of the
W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) and the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation
Corps) programs. Now a state park, main activities include picnicking,
camping and the study of nature. Multi-use trails accomodate horses,
mountain bikes and all-terrain hiking. (5 miles north of the Junction
of Highway 48 & County Road 1C)

Nora
Settlement
At
one time this Norwegian settlement existed as a store, post office, school,
blacksmith shop and garage. Nora was famous for its pioneer creamery from
1900- 1945, when it relocated to Alcester. There are several original
buildings still in the vicinity. (5 miles west of the Junction of Highway 11
and County Road 15)

Big
Springs Settlement

This
Swedish community is located in Big Springs Township and named for natural
springs in the area. A Baptist Church, founded in 1869, is the only
building in use today. The present church was built in 1874. There are several
other buildings still standing, including an Educational Annex used until 1985,
a store that operated from 1898-1971, and a school. (1 1/2 miles
east of the Junction of Highway 11 and County Road 3)
